Ruby New Zealand Incorporated
7.15pm - 8.15pm
Opened: 7.24pm
Present:
- Anthony
- Steve
- Andrew
- Laura
- Rebecca
- Merrin
- Pete
Apologies:
- Mathew
Minutes:
- Proposal from Merrin regarding event compensation guideline (follow up from previous minutes)
- No update, will park for time-being. Perhaps pick up when a new event comes along.
- Possible action to add a blurb to the website mentioning we would like to discuss with potential event organisers
- Steve [Treasurer] happy with existing version
- May be worth publicising in in it’s existing form, as current proposal held on internal wiki.
- Suggest we publicise and refine with next organiser
-
Vote to publicise in current form on the website
- Unanimously voted yes
- Kiwi Ruby update
- Going great. Earlybird sold out.
- Solid sponsorship resulting in significant current budget surplus.
- ~70 sold, ~60 left in regular allocations, some left in student and speaker allocations
- Catering area is the main bottleneck in terms of number of tickets that are able to be sold. Could consider another option if tickets sell out.
- Discussion on committee meeting at Kiwi Ruby.
- Strategy subcommittee update
- Nothing to update.
- Possibly meet at Kiwi Ruby to discuss how committee is going, and what we might want to achieve in the next 6 months.
- Community subcommittee update
- Nothing to update.
- May also be worth meeting to see if there are any other matters for the subcommittee.
- Monthly newsletter / push minutes
- Discussed with community member how transparency was stacking up against previous committees, and received the suggestion that we make a monthly newsletter including minutes.
- May be worth posting minutes link to #announcements now that we have made that change
- A who is hiring/who is looking section in that newsletter is a good idea, but a manual process to do this would be time consuming, and setting up an automated(-ish) system would be non trivial.
- Could consume the information from WellRailed meetups
- Action: Steve will try manual process one month.
- Committee real life meet? Auckland? Chch?
- Given we all make it to Kiwi Ruby, this seems like the obvious choice.
- Need to ensure all committee members can make it.
- Look into an Auckland/Christchurch meetup after that.
- Organised meetup for weekend of Kiwi Ruby - to be confirmed.
- Other business
- Heard of some developers that don’t even know of Ruby NZ or Kiwi Ruby
- Would be good to try spread the word a bit more
- People hear about Ruby NZ via various channels. Perhaps we could map out those channels, and expand the NZ register of companies using Ruby.
- Ruby NZ probably misses a lot of government-area rubyists.
- Would be worth trying to figure out ‘who we’re missing’.
- Canterbury tech summit happened recently. It could’ve been nice to have some presence there.
- Welly tech Christmas do might be another opportunity to meet people and discuss Ruby NZ.
- Discussed & decided to fund travel for one committee member to committee meeting
- [Welly tech discussion continued …]
- We could have a stall at Welly tech to try to find people who may not know about Ruby NZ. This could be particularly accessible for Ruby NZ if Kiwi Ruby continues to be very profitable.
-
Vote to make an enquiry into having a booth at Welly Tech, and price it up.
- Unanimously voted yes
- Heard of some developers that don’t even know of Ruby NZ or Kiwi Ruby
