Joining the RSE Leaders' special interest group

Summary of the group: There is a special interest group for RSE leaders within UK RSE. It is for anyone involved in leadership of RSEs (managing a group, attempting to set up a group, coordinating a local network, leading a multi-developer research software project). Membership is open to anyone meeting those criteria and is not limited to one person per organisation. The leaders' group provides a forum to share information, discuss issues with others in similar roles, and establish collaborations. We use an email list and Slack team as well as meeting in person twice a year with members taking turns to chair.

When someone asks to join RSEL, we:

  • Establish that they meet the criteria for membership (who decides?)
  • What are the criteria? Do we have anything formal? Do we need something?
  • How about "ask them to send an email to (what address?) with a few sentences explaining what their leadership role is"
  • Send a welcome email confirming membership (initial contact or Simon - develop a standard message?)
  • Add them to the mailing list (Simon currently?)
  • Send them an invitation to any upcoming meetings (Host of next meeting?)
  • Send a message to the mailing list introducing them or ask them to introduce themselves (initial contact or Simon?)

Text in brackets is who currently does it - sometimes whoever has been in contact with the person first. I presume that most of this should be handled by the new RSE network administrator once they are in post.
