This discussion will lean heavily on results from the latest historical run that includes diagnostics and ILAMB results.
On this LMWG-dev discussion thread we can go over:
- Known issues
- Additional considerations
- Plan for PPE work and LWMG coordination
PPE team is now standing up two public github repositories under the NCAR organization to house PPE related code:
- ctsm6_ppe will be used for ensemble generating code, similar to the existing CLM5PPE repo
- ctsm_ppe_analysis will be used for tools to analyze PPE output, similar to the existing ppe_tools PPE team will work on migrating and consolidating code to these new repos over the next few months.

Announcements & questions:
- we should have long options for aerosols, ndep, etc for CRU-JRA forced runs that now go through 2022. Should we now extend (for a full year) or use SSP data?

- Last push before code freeze with initial conditions for CTSM5.3 tag to be made soon, see LMWG-dev.
-
LMWG allocation: 23 M core hours / year, 46 M hours total
-
CMIP7 DECK experiments covered by CESM.
-
Additional MIPS need to be covered by WGs
-
Current costs for CESM3 are estimated here. Briefly costs range wildly between:
- Coupled model (Mid-top with ne30 grid and ocean BGC) 14000 PE-hrs/yr (12 y/day)
- Land only spinup (1 degree, f09 grid BGC-Crop) 280 PE-hr/yr (160 yr/day).
- Land only historical (1 degree, f09 grid BGC-Crop) 640 PE-hr/yr (72 yr/day). Hopefully this gets better...
-
For round numbers, the means that for a 300 year simulation (without spinup) we're looking at:
- 4.2M PE hours for a fully coupled model and
- 200K PE hours for a land only simulation
Let's fill out this sheet with experiments we think we'd like to request
