Zunder-zsh reaches v4.0 after almost 3 years in development!

Zunder-zsh is now slower! Wait...what? 🤨

Not at all...let me explain.

🧨 Breaking changes

• Plugin manager is now Zap instead of Zinit.
• Prompt is now Spaceship instead of Zunder-prompt.
• By default zsh-syntax-highlighting will now be used instead of fast-syntax-highlighting for syntax highlighting. You can change it to use your preference or disable it completely.

💫 Improvements achieved

• Up to 40% faster start-up. It doesn't mean it took long before either and you probably won't notice the change, but it is an improvement after all 🤠.
• Fully customizable prompt with asynchronous capabilities.
• Zap is much easier to use and faster to install plugins, although more bare-bones.
• By having simplified some parts of the project, maintenance will be less burdensome.

😬 Caveats

Spaceship is much slower than zunder-prompt

Zunder-prompt uses gitstatus to fetch git repository data, which is extremely fast and efficient. Gitstatus was created by romkatv, creator of Powerlevel10k, which also uses Gitstatus. The thing is that Gitstatus (and Powerlevel10k) went into maintenance mode, which doesn't mean it will stop working instantly (and probably never will), but it's something to keep in mind.

I created Zunder-prompt to have an extremely fast and pretty enough prompt for everybody, but that's very inconvenient for Zunder-zsh and I think Spaceship does it considering how simple it's to customize it. Spaceship is not extremely slow either, it's just not as instantaneous as Zunder-prompt.

In any case you can disable Spaceship and use Zunder-prompt or whatever prompt you want:

It is but the original maintainer, unfortunately, isn't even alive to help with the development. It's an extremely complex project that has gone through multiple difficulties during its development, and although the community has tried to maintain it, there are problems that won't be solved due to the complexity of the code.

zsh-syntax-highlighting is also a complex project but not such a level because it is not that ambitious, which guarantees me a little bit that you will not have any unexpected problems.

Again, it's not that zsh-syntax-highlighting is extremely slow, the change is imperceptible, the change is rather that fast-syntax-highlighting has more capabilities.
