Some XR environments can operate without controllers, using instead hand-detection to receive the equivalent user input. Making this hand-controlled experiences accessible will require:

  • best practices on how to provide proper fallback for users who can't use their hands (e.g. by always having other type of controllers input, assuming they can be remapped per Ensure WebXR Input controllers allow remapping #1)
  • flexibility in how hand detection is reported to accommodate to different hands capabilities (e.g. number of fingers, range of movements)

Responsible groups:

  • Accessible Platform Archictures Working Group for discussion in XAUR
  • Immersive Web Community Group for hand-input
