I recall having used emacs running in a browser window driving by wasm 2 years ago when experimenting the tech, and was thinking "in a year or so people will use this to replace textarea" but didn't happen. Is it still practical?

I think this is out of scope for edit with emacs. Yes it's theoretically possible but the work to get Emacs to build under a wasm virtual machine environment is more for the upstream Emacs project itself.
