DCMTK is widely used in all kinds of projects from research to commercial applications. We put a lot of effort into the library to stay up-to-date and add functionality whenever possible. However, giving away quality software for free is a difficult if not impossible business model, since side services such as offering consulting, training, and custom development hardly compensate for the amount of work that also needs to be done on the open source part of the library 💪.
