gist-it uses google-code-prettify, which has a line number option:

http://google-code-prettify.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/README.html

"How do I put line numbers in my code?"

This might work for you.

How can we add the needed class in the generated pre tag?

That google-code-prettify link gives a 404.

Is there another way to show the line numbers?
