I've tried this with Maya 2014 in Mac OS X and Linux, and they both do the something...
I really need a solution to load Houdini Particles into Maya, but nothing is working...

Hi Nightshifter, I just tested this.. it seems that there's still a bit of roughness around the edges on the new bgeo format in partio. (houdini changed the format recently and its not backward compatible) they added a file type in houdini.. ".bhclassic" which is the old version of the bgeo format.. This .bhclassic format should still work fine in partio in maya for now. all you have to do is export your particle data from houdini as .bhclassic and then rename the files to .bgeo and they should be fine in partio.
Alternately, if you wanted to build the partio4Houdini plugin, you could use that to export the particles as any format partio supports directly from within houdini.

Let me know if you have any other problems, and I'll keep this issue active until the newer version of the bgeo format is fully supported correctly.
