Sorry for cross posting.
I heard about this in a meeting today and it seems like something we should all drop everything to read and comment upon if we want to affect our government's policy related to biodiversity data.
In case you hadn't seen this: USGS Assessment of Biodiversity and Climate Change; Request for Public Comment on the First Draft of Assessment Chapter let's make sure the interests of this community are represented! FYI, this is also not the same thing as the National Nature Assessment.

Scroll to the bottom and click on the link in "As the first milestone, USGS and its partners seek public comments on the draft chapters (https://contribute.globalchange.gov/) for the assessment of biodiversity and climate change."

Scroll to the middle and click on this: "Click here to view and download the First Order Draft Chapters."
At the end of the day, this is the link you’re trying to get to: https://downloads.globalchange.gov/usgs-biodiversity/First_Order_Draft_Chapters_BCCA_External.pdf, it should open up without logging in.
WARNING - this is a 1,000 page document - just preparing everyone so that you aren't blindsided. The various GBIF nodes in the USA are hoping to draft a coherent response, but their time is also limited. I'll add more once I know more. There is a section called "Data Collaboration". It's the only place GBIF is mentioned.
