Hey everyone, I think you should consider allowing potential users to see input form before signing in. The form is so simple to understand and easy to use, you should be proud of it and show it off. Hiding it behind the sign in wall makes users less likely to sign in as they don't know how complex or time consuming the process will be.

Thanks for making a great website!

Thanks for a suggestion!
We will think this through UX-wise with a team.

My concern is that a user could be disappointed after filling up the form because signing up is required to add AED.

Technically it's little bit more complicated than current workflow because we have to store form state during logging process.

Perhaps a middle ground would be to prepare a short tutorial document, highlighting how easy it is to add new AEDs. It could serve as both an advertisement and a built-in tutorial that appears after a button click.

I have had bad experiences with forms that only tell you at the end that they want your e-mail address or something so I am not keen on having the login requirement at the end but we'll see about others' opinions.

For UX inspiration, Rapid, JOSM and StreetComplete allow edits before signing in. iD requires signing in. (I think StreetComplete has a great UX)

However Open AED Map isn't quite the same as the above editors can take a lot of data from a user before they are shown the sign in form. For this it's 1 defib, with 5 optional questions. The amount of effort lost if someone doesn't want to sign up is much smaller.

Also, you guys could consider opening an anonymous note when someone doesn't want to sign in. Then the local community can decide how to handle it, probably corroborate it with other sources like local datasets or street level imagery. Onosm.org does this.

I fully agree you shouldn't lose data when someone signs in.

StreetComplete has a into/overview screen before editing. As well as allowing edits before signing in. (I think StreetComplete has a great UX :p)
