Borehole Data Model
Here we provide information on the Data Model created for the OGC GeoTech IE. This model is based on the core standards Observations, Measurement and Samples (ISO 19156) and Linear Referencing (ISO 19148). In addition, this model has been transformed from a conceptual model to an implementation model based on OGC SensorThings API.
Within the this IE, the focus will be on the following types of tests:
- Cone penetration test (CPT)
- Standard penetration test (SPT)
- PressioTest
In addition, the following constraints apply:
- For 1 borehole: CPT test or SPT tests or Pressio test
- In case of CPT : only 1 CPT per borehole,
- In case of SPT : n SPT per borehole (at different depths),
- In case of Pressio : n Pressio per borehole (at different depths).
Before we can provide data for these tests, we must determine what spatial features must be defined to serve as features-of-interest for these tests. The following diagram provides an overview of all spatial features to be potentially defined on a borehole. For more information on these individual features-of-interest types, and the sampling model describing them, see the page on Sampling Boreholes.
Before work could commence on the creation of a conceptual model for boreholes, the requirements from Linear Referencing (ISO 19148) needed to be investigated, and potential alignment with sampling concepts from OMS identified and aligned: Alignment of OMS (ISO 19156) and Linear Referencing (ISO 19148)
Based on the alignment of OMS with Linear Referencing, a conceptual model was created for boreholes. Conceptual Borehole Model
Finally, for provision via OGC SensorThings API (STA), a physical model has been created, extending the core STA classes as required. STA Borehole Model
In order to apply theory to practice, examples can be essential. In this section, we will soon provide examples aligned with the STA Borehole Model.
