Kart will soon support Pointcloud datasets, followed by Raster/Imagery datasets. This is data that is often tiled, within a filesystem folder or cloud hosted location.
QGIS does not (AFAIK) provide a way to add a filesystem folder or network location of tiled data. Virtual datasets can be created for raster data, but there is not (again AFAIK) a way to create Pointcloud virtual datasets.
This means there is no clear mechanism for tracking a tiled pointcloud (and future: raster) dataset within QGIS, for committing changes, diffing the dataset, etc.
Ideas for possible approaches:
Create a special layer Group which contains the tiled data. Ideally this group would automatically track the tiles within the working copy folder.
Leverage virtual datasets the reference paths or specific files, with hooks to add/remove/modify the contents.
Other ideas and options for tracking multi-tile dataset changes with QGIS are also welcome.
