I'm thinking no at this point. Looks like it was even pulled from the Play Store. Really sad as I looked forward to using this with my kids every year and then checking out the code. The progressive web app is garbage that "installs" on your phone now. |
@kyhule It seems that the app is indeed not possible to find via searching the Play Store, but if you have previously used the app, you can still access it by going directly to https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.santatracker. If you've never used it, it shows as unavailable. I do not know if it will work, as your phone may be a different CPU architecture than mine (ARM64) and I'm pretty sure this is an "optimized APK", but if you would like to try sideloading the app, I have attached a copy of the Santa Tracker APK from my phone which I just extracted with Titanium Backup. com.google.android.apps.santatracker-fdc2ab6175cbd91fb1222981216aec69.zip |
I'll try that on my moto g power. I installed it from apkpure and just got
the masked Santa PWA.

Same issue with your apk. Got the original loading animation momentarily,
then it switched to masked Santa.

The PWA works well for me, I just don't like the UI as well.

@kj7rrv I'm do not understand where the issue could be coming from. I just did sideloaded the APK I posted above on x86 emulator, and it worked just fine. (This also proves that the APK can be used on an architecture other than the phone from which it was extracted from.) Emulator demo video. Performance is not super great, but at least it shows that it does work. 2020-12-24.13-05-14.mp4 |
That's this year's PWA.

This APK is from last year, so it isn't. It just looks the same. |
I remember a different interface last year.

I suspect even the original app is nothing more than a "window" to the website. All I can say for sure though is the PWA version doesn't work for me. |
Will this be updated for 2020?
