As already reported to WASDI, there are some points to be further investigated about the maps (StPolten Vienna) they provided:

  1. From a first analysis on the St Polten area we noticed that flood events are present on 8/23 of the files provided-excluding the cumulative (namely Aug 3-15-27-30, Sept 8-11-16-20), with the most relevant ones being just 2 (Sept, 16th and 20th)
  2. on Sept 11th and Sept 16th the areas circled in red appears to be flooded (blue: permanent water, green: flooded) whereas in the cumulative map this is not the case (below the corresponding screenshots)

WASDI provided an updated cumulative map for StPolten but there are two aspects to be clarified:

  • In the previous cumulative (2024-09-22, 84 days) the permanent water areas (blue in the example attached) were better delimited whereas in the newly provided map (2024-10-01, 94 days) they appear to be coarsely pixellated
  • In some cases the flooded areas (green pixels in the examples) are within the permanent water ones

Old cumulative (2024-09-22, 84days) example:
StPoltenVienna_2024-09-22_Cumul84days

New cumulative (2024-10-01, 94days) example:
StPoltenVienna_2024-10-01_Cumul94days

Concerning Niederosterreich region:

  • they didn't identified flooded areas within the bbox as described in the EMSR pdf shared. They've been asked to double check it and and focus the analysis considering also 2024-09-23, the date the files refers to.

Below the final preview of the (Nov, 15) cumulative map (2024-07-01_2024-10-01) for StPolten Vienna.
To make them more relevant, only the flooded areas are visualized, using red as it is common for these type of events (example: https://custom-scripts.sentinel-hub.com/custom-scripts/sentinel-1/flood_mapping/)
