Because I often install Elementary onto netbook type devices with low storage capacity (to give to friends), one of the things I find myself doing is removing language packs that they will never use. Of course, as an advanced user I wrote a simple script for this, but I think it might be nice to have a GUI-driven way of removing all unnecessary languages from the system. Right now it seems that a GUI user would need to enter into the Language & Region switchboard, and manually press "-" for each language. A simple solution would be placing a checkbox next to each language so that they can be checked off and removed with a single click of the "-" button.

Huh, I expected Ctrl/Shift+Clicking to work here but it didn't. At the very least that could be a way to select and remove many languages at once. There might be weirdness with selecting multiple and knowing what to do with the right side. In Mail we just display something like "3 conversations selected" iirc.

Hi, why are so many languages installed automatically even though I didn't select them during the installation? It would be wonderful if you could fix that. An easier way to remove the languages would of course be nice as well!

I presume because those languages have to exist in order for the installer itself (and live environment) to be translated. I'm not sure if they're supposed to be automatically removed or not, though.

Do you think that with your new installer this problem will be solved?
Or what effects will the installation of languages in the new installer have on switchboard-plug-locale?
