Typing accented characters in the keyboard layout test box produces unexpected input

Steps to Reproduce

1. Boot the elementary OS 8 install media and start the installer.
2. In the keyboard layout setup, choose a language with accented characters (like Spanish or Portuguese), then try typing them in the test box.

Expected Behavior

When I press the key combination ´ + e it should produce é, which it does; but it's also producing é´ — é followed by a lone accent character ´.
Same with ^ + e = ê. It produces ê^.
