Dock & Panel Settings

So,

I've been playing with the "Hide Dock" settings in hopes of getting it to behave a bit.

Currently, I've got the "Hide Dock" setting "When the focused window is maximized" toggled.

That seems to work, but if I move my mouse to the bottom of the screen, and select something. Like the "Start discussion" button as shown below:

The dock won't show, but the application in the dock immediately under the button will start.

Is that the way this is supposed to function?

I've tried the other "Hide Dock" settings and there was no appreciable difference in function that I could tell.

Any light you might be able to shine upon this conundrum would be appreciated.

This sound like elementary/gala#2101 which only happens in the classic session.
If you don't have any major issues (like screen reader, some old apps that don't work properly etc.) with the secure session I would recommend using it since the dock was designed for it and only retrofitted to the classical session.
