Describe the bug

I could not send a file from my phone to the computer. To try to get things better, I installed blueman and I get a message that a file was sent but there is no way to accept. If I close the message that comes, the file is "rejected" from my phone immediately.

All updates done as of Jan 15, 2020 asia time. eOS 5.1

Expected behavior

I expect an accept dialog box or something.

There is currently a work around for this, but for a userfriendly os like elementary OS it is not pretty:

  1. install blueman
    sudo apt install blueman
  2. run blueman-services
    blueman-services
  3. pick 'transfers'
  4. and tick 'receive files'

and you will now receive files from paired (trusted) devices in your Downloads folder... Perhaps this option ought to be enabled by elementary OS by default. Since the device would need to be paired first by the user anyhow, there is little point in having to futher fiddle with permissions etc.

I can confirm that the issue persists in OS7.1. When my Android phone pairs with elementaryos the connection is described as for "calls and audio" not for file transfer. It allows transfer of files from elementary to the phone (using Files) but not the other way round.

Cancel that - I had incompatible versions of the bluetooth daemon and the wingpanel bluetooth plug and wingpanel notifications plug installled from source. Its working now. One oddity is that even thought he "confirm" setting is on, I do not get any notifications requiring confirmation of receiving the file. However, I suspect that in OS8 at least this will be fixed.

Anyway this issue needs to be confirmed for the latest versions of elementary.

Its stopped working again after a reboot 😞 I think I had temporarily had a tweaked version of the daemon installed which by passed the confirmation stage. I think its something todo with notifications being used to get authorization from the user. If they do not appear and are not accepted then the transfer will fail.

I am pretty sure this used to work in OS7 or OS6.1 but seems to have become flaky maybe due to changes in progress for OS8. Hopefully it will not occur there.
