Custom remote removed upgrade

I have a custom remote in the /remotes/ folder.
Every time I update the package, my custom remote is blown away.
Is there a way around this?

You can add your remote to this repository, and if the owner will accept request merge of your branch, then your remote will be part of the official repository. Look one the Readme, below remotes were created by contributors, not by owner. Below of the remotes you can read how to contribute
