This blog post outlines a way to publish binary packages to npm's registry. This not only gives users a simpler way to install our release artifacts, but possibly also better support to update their installation. We could do similar packaging.

Closing this as the current workflow of publishing artifacts here and automatically to vscode's marketplace works good enough.
