Just wondering whether there was a particular reason for this extension to be in the local code pool rather than community? Would be happy to submit a pull request to move everything into community if you'd consider it.

No reason, just inertia. This was built before the local/community guidelines were made clear by Magento. I'd be happy to have it in community.
