Upgrade to SimVim Cockpit #11
Comments
i too |
I'm interested in this as well, I'll be scrapping my old sim to build new one and attempting to upgrade to SimVim. Happy to contribute to the git repo when/if helpful. Edit: I completed my first test with a multiplexer. It's more complex than just direct to input, but with the documentation on simvim it's pretty straight forward. The simvim configurator tool is much better than the old ardsim version. My sim has custom built dual yokes that use rotary 10-turn pots. I can't tell you how many hours I wasted with ardsim, frustratingly trying to "calibrate" each axis by checking the data in arduino code and then mapping incorrectly into the data config file. SimVim has built in calibration tools that help you map start/stop points for various axis, which is a huge help. |
have you had any problems with multiple rotary encoders on one multiplexer? for some reason when I turn one, one or more will start spazing out and rotate in x-plane |
I ran into a few issues during my build with similar problems where inputs were spazing out. It's typically either bad wiring (a loose S0-S3 wire for example) or a bad MP. I had two MP's out of about 8 not work correctly. Wasted hours trouble shooting and then when I swapped out the board everything was fine. I also used 30ga wire for most of it and it's kind of delicate. I had one of my S wires break inside the connector and I didn't know it until I removed the wires and happened to find it. So definitely check all your wiring carefully and the diagram. I'm running 8+ encoders on one MP with no issues. You could run 16 with no issues. |
For the record here, I scrapped all my ArdSim stuff and rebuilt everything. I used SimVim and multiplexers. All necessary information is available from SimVim.com .. really no need for explanations here on how to do that. |
ok thanks I guess I got a bad batch of multiplexers than |
Check your grounds too. I had a ground come unplugged the other day and things were going haywire. |
Hi @allanglen
It would be very interesting to see the updated arduino code. I would like to collaborate on the project.
