I've seen an instructor on the Carpentries Bash course use a split terminal (tmux or similar) showing the last ~4 lines of history at the top of the terminal. This helps learners keep up with previous commands if they fall behind and makes sure people at the back can see even if you're typing at the bottom of the terminal. I think they shared their config on GitHub somewhere but I can't find the link anymore.
