Official Instance

Describe the bug

Opening a video on piped.video (I use adminforge.de, some others tested as well) do load the chapters, comments and thumbnail, pressing the play button or space doesn't affect in playing the video but just shows the thumbnail. Using Firefox 128.0.3 the videos play just fine.

To Reproduce

  1. Open Brave (or probably any other Chromium based browser)
  2. Go to https://piped.video
  3. Click on a video you want to watch
  4. Press the play button or space
  5. See that the video doesn't play

Expected behavior

Having the videos play on hitting the play button or space.

@guefra works fine for me :) I'm using Brave (Chromium 127.0.6533.73) latest

@guefra, weirdly as a suggestion, try choosing a quality in the video options (three-dot menu) other than Auto. I've found this issue on my own instance, that seems to get the videos to work, however I have to do it for every video. Is this the same for you?

I have the same issue on Floorp browser, and the suggested workaround by @matt-laird works for me. Choosing the resolution manually starts the playback.

Interesting, it's a work around for now, but I think the quality selection logic needs to be checked.

Oh, that's really interesting though! When doing this it actually works. Only problem, I don't really want to do this every time.

Didn't want to close, as the problem still exists.

Do you have a default quality set in preferences? If so, try setting it back to auto. This sounds like #3715.
