Something like https://plausible.io/ or https://simpleanalytics.com/.

  • Advantage: Metrics can be made public , that makes it easier to manage who has access I'm not even sure how to access the Google Analytics one.
  • Drawback: cost is between 10 to 20 a month.
Seem like we didn't even notice there was 0 view recently as Google analytics was removed, so does it even matter ?

Some of the main users are Marketing, so would need to run it by them.

On this matter:

  • matomo -- good - used by a bunch of projects in the data science open source ecosystem (ROpenSci, Carpentries, Simply Secure), total ownership over the data, open source, non-evil, as complete as google analytics, uses cookies
  • plausible -- good - used by a few projects in the data science open source ecosystem (scikit-image), total ownership over data, open source, non-evil, very lightweight, no cookies required

Pricing wise:

  • £190 +tax per year for the basic plan for Matomo (50K visits).
  • $144 per year for Plausible (200K visits)
  • $240 per year for Netlify (125K visits).
