Button with question mark next to the search box that takes you to a static "about/FAQ" page which explains what this is, how to use it.

Needs a bit more polishing. Before we have to decide whether we want to keep Bootstrap or not. Thoughts?

What is Bootstrap please?

Bootstrap is a (not-so-lightweight) framework that takes care of styling your user interface for you. It can save you a lot of work but on the other hand increases page load time.

+0 on getting rid of bootstrap. I don't have the skills to duplicate lead and such classes. Certainly don't know how a good option for a source of a reset/normalise css.

It would be nice to slim things down, on the other hand lots of people should already have it in their cache and it is a bit of work.

Something to do post launch?

There is one that is literally called normalize.css.
The point is that we don't really make much use of bootstrap so far thus I don't think the additional load time is worth it.

Taking this back on topic (about page).

I am actually starting to think we should have an overlay for first time visitors. Would it be good enough to display the about page? A few new people I showed the page to were confused/didn't know what it did.

Should we rename the "About" button to "Help"? You might think it would tell you about the place, not about the webpage and how it works.

Don't have the skillz to make the overlay though.

it would be great to have little boxes with arrows pop up and explain stuff

Like a "tour" of the webpage?

Indeed. One just has to make sure that it does not interfere with functionality and that it is only shown once -> cookie?
