We are excited to announce the beginning of the Netatalk 4.0 release series! This new major version integrates the AppleTalk essentials of Netatalk 2.x with the more modern, safer codebase of Netatalk 3.x
You can always find the latest version at https://github.com/Netatalk/netatalk/releases
Effective immediately, the Netatalk 3.2 as well as 2.4 release series are considered legacy. We will continue to fix critical bugs in these branches, including security vulnerabilities, for at least 1 year (until end of September 2025).
For 3.x users, the upgrade path to 4.0 is absolutely pain free. It should behave exactly the same for you out of the box. You continue using the same afp.conf and shared volumes.
For 2.x users, the upgrade path is a bit more complex. It involves (automatically) converting shared volume metadata, and moving to a new configuration file format.
For detailed upgrade instruction, see: https://netatalk.io/stable/htmldocs/upgrade
We hope that you will continue to use and love Netatalk! If you have feedback, we look forward to your issue ticket or Discussions thread.
