JOSM has an interesting feature called DownloadAlongWay which give the user the ability to select a way and download data near that. I think that having something similar in Vespucci could be really useful since some ways are very long and downloading an entire viewbox sometimes can be very heavy.

Just as a potential workaround: If you are moving along the way in person "Location based download" (https://vespucci.io/help/en/Main%20map%20display/#transfer) does that (size of the downloaded bounding box can be set in the preferences).

There's also the "Pan and zoom auto download" (very useful while couch mapping) ut for very long ways it's time consuming.
