I came across this library as still the best solution for emoji keyboard.
But it was updated last time over one year ago and new PR's and Issues are not been taking care of.

Would it be better to fork it and continue development on another repo?

Personally & commercially I've had to switch this library into something else due to lot of bugs and drastically slow scrolling. Can recommend https://pub.dev/packages/flutter_emoji_keyboard The only missing part is "recent emoji", but I can live without it.
