The XQEMU project doesn't accept donations (of any kind) due to issues with sharing money fairly.
The project also wants to avoid to have a closed-group of people on a payroll (as it discourages new developers from helping for free).
The project also has little expenses, so it doesn't need money to operate.
However, some individuals (developers) who contribute to XQEMU accept donations:
This is a community / group effort (= there's many people involved)
You are donating to a person, not a project; many people work on different projects (= check what they work on)
It's your responsibility to give money to the right people (= check what they work on)
For most contributors, this is a hobby, not a job (= they might disappear at any time)
As such, donations are usually rewarding past contributions (= don't expect anything)
It's bad to depend on a single developer for open-source projects, so don't just attempt to make one person a full-time developer (= it will piss off other developers / break the project)
Money doesn't write code

Important - keep in mind that..
