Expose DB via web interface

Someone (can't recall who, maybe @AndyHoggANU ?) thought it would be fine, dandy and lovely to expose the DB via a web interface. To allow non-NCI users to browse the available data.

It is possible to run web services from a VM on the NCI hardware, but this is not straightforward, requires maintenance, and recent issues with security only makes the maintenance aspect even more important.

Another possibility would be to automatically copy the DB (it is relatively modestly sized) to another location and set up some RESTful querying structure?

With that amount of work it might be better to start looking at other mature cataloguing solutions.
